Stichting Alde Fryske Tsjerken

MISSION

Alde Fryske Tsjerken is a dutch NGO, created in the 1970s. Their main operation area is in the province of Friesland in the north of The Netherlands. At the moment, they have around 3,800 volunteers and 4 full-time staff working at their offices.

The goal of Alde Fryske Tsjerken (The Old Frisian Churches Foundation) is to prevent churches from disappearing across the Frisian landscape. It achieves this goal by taking over ownership of monumental churches. They also encourage our local committees to organize all kind of events in their churches.

ACTIVITIES

MANAGEMENT OF SITES

The organization owns 51 churches across Friesland as well as 6 graveyards.  Their ultimate goal is not to own more cultural sites, but rather to keep them from becoming abandoned.  The organization takes over the management of increasingly emptying churches and graveyards, which are managed through the aid of volunteers.

PROMOTION OF SITES

In order to promote their sites and keep them in use, the organization frequently organizes concerts and lectures that are held in their churches.  Through the organization of these events, they are able to encourage the reuse of these cultural sites.
