New exhibition in Serbia showcases the creations of master carpenter Petar Zarić

The Cultural Heritage Preservation Institute of Belgrade opens on 15 August an exhibition dedicated to Petar Zarić, a master carpenter who contributed to the interior design of important heritage buildings in the country. The exhibition is financed by the Belgrade City Assembly Secretariat for Culture and can be visited at Museum of Applied Art until 11 September.

On the occasion of the reconstruction of the Old Fairgrounds Central Tower, the Cultural Heritage Preservation Institute of Belgrade contacted the descendants of Mr Petar Zarić, to request access to the photographic archive of this artist who had decorated the interior of the Central Pavilion and the building of the Nikola Spasić Endowment Pavilion of the newly built Belgrade Fairgrounds in 1937.

The aim was to have documentation on the former appearance and original interior design of the Old Fairgrounds considering the countless reconstructions, extensions and demolitions that took place during World War II and the decades that followed.

The collected material is now presented in an exhibition dedicated to him in which the public is presented with the urban spaces in which he worked, his furniture designs, his drawings, his marquetry and wood inlays, and the furniture and iconostasis he created for the Serbian Orthodox Church.
