Museum im Zisterzienserkloster Lehnin

MISSION

The museum of the Cisterian monastery of Lehnin lies on the monastery grounds between the cities of Potsdam and Berlin in Germany. Its permanent exhibition uses numerous historical and current documents and objects that illustrate how the Cistercians’ basic idea of a life in the rhythm of “ora et labora”, of “praying and working”, connects with this structural system of the monastery and continues to this day through the Centuries. In addition to its main role as a museum, this organisation works hard to maintain its monastery as an active part of its community as well as maintaining the religious heritage sites under its care, often involving its community in this process.

ACTIVITIES

CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN MICHELSDORF TO DEVELOP LOCAL GUIDELINES FOR STRUCTURAL DESIGN

In September 2018, with the active participation of its residents, the municipality of Kloster Lehnin carried out a process to develop and shape their municipality in and for the district of Michelsdorf. This initiative was supported by the Ministry of Infrastructure and State Planning and the Brandenburg Chamber of Architects. Over the course of 12 weeks and with much participation, residents discussed and formulated their ideas for the further development and design of their village in “village talks”.

LOCAL WALKS

In each of the 14 districts, guided walks are carried out with residents of the municipality of Kloster Lehnin and interested guests. These are prepared individually by the respective districts. On these walks, residents are asked to be observant of their cultural landscape. A simple questionnaire is completed at the end of the walks, the results of which are incorporated into the tourism planning of the municipality of Kloster Lehnin.
