Historic England is a public body that helps people care for, enjoy and celebrate England’s spectacular historic environment. They protect, champion and save sites of importance to English heritage. Working with communities and specialists they share their passion, knowledge and skills to inspire interest, care and conservation, so everyone can keep enjoying and looking after the history that surrounds us all.

Historic England operates a list of buildings and sites of cultural heritage importance. By being added onto this list, these sites earn a national heritage status, thus protecting them and keeping them open and available to everyone.
ADVICE
Historic England publishes a wide range of expert advice and guidance on the protection and care of England’s historic sites. This advice is available to everyone.
RESEARCH
The organization conducts and funds high quality applied research to support the protection and management of historic sites in England.
