FRH Masterclass | “Staging religion in museums: the “performance” of religion(s) as a challenge for museums”

Join our two-day free masterclass

We have the pleasure to invite you to a new FRH masterclass which will focus on how museums can research and communicate to the public the “language” of different religions in exhibition spaces, recognising the uniqueness of each and their way of making sense of the world.

Religions are expressing themselves not only in texts and doctrine. They are also holistic systems of experience connected with rites and practices that on the one hand serve self-assurance within the religious community, but on the other hand also make this visible to the outside world. This masterclass will explore how such performances can be researched and communicated in museum contexts in a way that museums recognise and communicate also the special uniqueness of religion in exhibitions.

The masterclass will take place on 14-15 October 2024 in a hybrid format. The presentations will be in German and English with simultaneous translation into English and German. For more information, please see the programme below.

This event is organised by the Institute of Catholic Theology and its Education of Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg and the Evangelisches Diakonissenhaus Berlin Teltow Lehnin in cooperation with the Kulturstiftung Sachsen-Anhalt. Thanks to the cooperation with FRH, online participation in the event will be possible free of charge.
