The Berlin Call to Action was inspired and created through the collaboration of cultural professionals and volunteers, with input and support by the EYCH national coordinators, members of the EYCH Stakeholders Committee and members of the European Heritage Alliance 3.3.
FRH and our President Olivier de Rohan-Chabot were amongst the first to sign and join the ‘Berlin Call to Action’, an initiative launched by the three Summit co-hosting organisations, namely Europa Nostra – the Voice of Cultural Heritage in Europe, the German Cultural Heritage Committee (DNK) acting as national coordinator of the European Year of Cultural Heritage in Germany, and the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK) based in Berlin.
The Call reflects on the need for targeted policies regarding cultural heritage in Europe, and features 7 action points:
- Developing the European Action Plan for Cultural Heritage;
- Recognising heritage as a priority for European policies and funding;
- Bridging local, national and European;
- Preserving and transmitting the irreplaceable;
- Investing in quality heritage-led regeneration;
- Promoting better knowledge and deeper understanding;
- Building on the momentum.
The Berlin Call to Action, along with its signatories, will be presented to relevant decision-makers, including;
EU institutions [the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Council, the Council of the European Union, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC); Council of Europe and UNESCO; Member States of the Council of Europe, at local, regional and national level of governance; National coordinators of the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH); and Members of the EYCH Stakeholders Committee and other members of the European Heritage Alliance 3.3.

We therefore invite you to sign the ‘Berlin Call to Action’, to ensure these targeted policies and clear action points are shared by European citizens and adopted by European decision-makers. Only through collective convergence and joint efforts can we make the voice of culture be heard!
(The document will soon be available in all EU languages on the Europa Nostra website.)
