But now the Rt Rev Colin Fletcher, the Bishop of Dorchester, has praised parishes which rip out wooden pews from their churches to convert the buildings into “community hubs”. He has endorsed dozens of schemes in his diocese which have seen traditional seating removed, to be replaced by more comfortable, stackable options.
