AUSTRIA – Workshop “Protestant Church Architecture of the 16th-18th centuries in Europe”

The University of Wroclaw and the Polish Academy of Sciences organize from 28th November – 2nd December 2013 a research project workshop Protestant Church Architecture of the 16th-18th centuries in Europe. The workshop will take place in Vienna, Austria.

The purpose of the research project is to prepare a synthesis of the history of Protestant church architecture in Europe to the late 18th century, developed from three perspectives:

a) Development of spatial structures towards optimal solutions to liturgy based on preaching and gradually growing apart from Catholic tradition;

b) Political conditions of building activities, with particular consideration given to countries of the Evangelical diaspora;

c) Functioning of former Protestant churches within the modern nation states.
