POLYVERSE – Promoting multicultural dialogue and religious heritage by creating a European Interreligious Choir is an EU-funded project that harnesses the unifying potential of culture and art, particularly music, to promote interreligious and intercultural dialogue. The project has the ambitious task of creating the very first European Interreligious Choir that will collaboratively create an original musical composition.
The first phase of the project will focus on investigating the role of music in the three main religions in Europe (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) and gathering best practices from existing initiatives that utilise music as a driver for intercultural and interreligious dialogue.
The second phase of the project will involve the establishment of the Polyverse Choir, which will feature a local conductor and members from Germany, Italy, and Greece. The choir will participate in two artistic residencies to familiarise themselves with the musical traditions of the three religions, engage in intercultural dialogue, and develop a new musical composition alongside three selected composers.
Finally, the newly-formed Polyverse Interreligious Choir will embark on a tour in 2026 with three key events that will take place at the Basilica di Aquileia (Italy), the Synagogue of Athens (Greece), and the Lehnin Monastery (Germany). Each event will include a musical performance, a public conference aimed at fostering interreligious dialogue, and a guided visit of the sites.
The project partners of POLYVERSE are the Basilica of Aquileia (Italy), the Jewish Community of Athens (Greece), Klosterland (Germany), the Islamic Cultural Centre of Rome (Italy) and Future for Religious Heritage (European).
The project website will be available soon. Please stay tuned for updates!
