This month we are excited to invite you to join our campaign #JUMPFORHERITAGE which launches on Tuesday, 15 December. You can find out more about it in our Featured article

Three of FRH's submissions were nominated to Europa Nostra's 7 Most Endangered program shortlist, which identifies the most threatened cultural heritage sites in Europe.

This month's country of the month is Finland. You can read more about the religious heritage of its capital, Helsinki, in our Religiana list

FRH was happy to attend the European Regional Meeting of the Climate Heritage Network. This meeting covered topics such as the European Green Paper and the Food is Culture Policy.   

FRH member, the National Churches trust will be holding an Online Christmas Carol concert on 16 December which will feature celebrities such as Bill Bryson and Michael Palin. 

In EU news, the European Heritage/Europa Nostra award winners for 2020 have been announced. We are happy to see a religious heritage site among one of the three winners.

FRH LAUNCHES JUMP FOR HERITAGE 
We are very excited to invite you to join our campaign #JUMPFORHERITAGE. Uniting sports and heritage, this campaign seeks to get people up and active to explore their religious heritage after a difficult year of confinement and uncertainty. Participants can join the campaign by posting a photo to social media of themselves jumping in front of a religious heritage site. There will also be a contest where the photo will receive their prize at our Biennial Conference in Barcelona in May 2021. READ MORE >>>

MEET THE COUNCIL: JUSTIN KROESEN
In this new section of our newsletter, we will be introducing the members of our council through personal interviews. We would like to start off with one of our newest council members, Justin Kroesen who joined our council in October 2020. Justin is a professor of the material culture of Christianity and is responsible for the collection of church art at the University Museum in Bergen, Norway. READ MORE >>>

THREE OF FRH'S SUBMISSIONS NOMINATED TO EUROPA NOSTRA'S 7 MOST ENDANGERED SHORTLIST
Three of FRH's submissions were nominated to Europa Nostra's 7 Most Endangered shortlist for 2021. Since 2013, the 7 Most Endangered list identifies the most threatened monuments, sites and landscapes in Europe and mobilises public and private partners at all levels to find a viable future for these heritage gems. FRH President, Pilar Bahamonde said "Future for Religious Heritage is honoured to have submitted 3 of the 12 heritage sites nominated for this year's "7 Most Endangered Programme" we hope this helps raise awareness for religious heritage across Europe". READ MORE >>>
 
FRH ATTENDS EUROPEAN REGIONAL MEETING OF THE CLIMATE HERITAGE NETWORK  
FRH attended the European regional meeting of the Climate Heritage Network. The Climate Heritage Network is a network of cultural heritage organisations that are dedicated to using heritage as a tool for developing a sustainable future. Topics such as the European Green Paper, the Food is Culture Policy, and more were all discussed. The recording of the meeting can be viewed via the organisation's Facebook page. READ MORE >>>
 
KU LEUVEN INTRODUCES A CULTURAL HERITAGE INSTITUTE
KU Leuven in Belgium has created a new institute that is dedicated to cultural heritage. The institute is called HERKUL and is an interdisciplinary programme that is dedicated to answering questions such as What exactly is cultural heritage? How can we better understand, preserve and appreciate this heritage? And how does it contribute to our wellbeing and sustainable development? NATIONAL CHURCHES TRUST'S ONLINE CHRISTMAS CAROLS
Many members are organising alternative events during the Christmas period. One such event is the National Churches Trust's online Christmas Carol Concert at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 16 December 2020. Bill Bryson, Huw Edwards and Michael Palin are amongst the celebrities headlining this concert which will raise money for the UK's churches, many of which have been in the frontline of providing community support during the coronavirus pandemic. The concert features the acclaimed choir of St Paul's church in Knightsbridge and will include favourite carols which can be sung at home by anyone watching the online concert. READ MORE >>>

EUROPEAN HERITAGE AWARD WINNERS FOR 2020 ANNOUNCED 
Europa Nostra announced the three winners of Europe's highest European heritage award. The ceremony, which took place online, was attended by Mariya Gabriel, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. A religious heritage site, the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio in L'Aquila Italy, was among the winners who will each receive a prize of 10,000 Euros. The winners were selected among this year’s 21 winning achievements from 15 European countries. READ MORE >>>
NEW EU BUDGET APPROVED, COMMISSIONER MARIYA GABRIEL WELCOMES THE NEW BUDGET PROPOSAL
The European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel has welcomed the EU's new budget proposal. The budget is an agreement between the European Parliament and EU Member States in the Council on Europe's next long-term budget and NextGenerationEU, the temporary recovery instrument. Once adopted, the package of a total of €1.8 trillion will be the largest package ever financed through the EU budget. It will help rebuild a post-COVID-19 Europe, which will be greener, more digital, more resilient and better fit for the current and forthcoming challenges. READ MORE >>>

HELSINKI'S SACRED ARCHITECTURE
This month's country of the month is Finland. We've started off our list of this wintry country's religious heritage in its capital, Helsinki. Although the buildings in Helsinki are not a thousand years old, its religious buildings display the diversity of modern architecture, of which Helsinki is one of the world's capitals. READ MORE >>>
 
FRH MEMBER OF THE MONTH: FONDATION AVENIR DU PATRIMOINE À PARIS
This month's FRH Member of the week is Fondation Avenir du Patrimoine à Paris – Fondation Notre Dame. Created in 2014, the goal of the foundation is to preserve the historic churches of Paris and their art pieces in order to transfer this heritage to future generations. Their activities include safeguarding Paris' religious heritage sites and educating the younger generations about their importance. READ MORE >>>
