#FRHFeatureArticle | Did you know that in England, there are 9️⃣ 7️⃣ former cinemas currently used as places of worship by Christians, Muslims, Hindus and other religious denominations📽?

We often speak about the adaptive reuse of religious buildings, but we rarely hear about the inverse process, the reuse of secular buildings to be transformed into places of worship. This interesting phenomenon has been reflected in the Moving Pictures project, led by Dr Kate Jordan and Dr Julie Marsh from the University of Westminster (United Kingdom).

🌟 Following the results of our latest opinion poll on European citizens' perception of religious heritage, we can only reaffirm our commitment to defend the cultural, historical and artistic significance of historic places of worship🕌🕍⛪️.

🗣 Pilar Bahamonde, FRH President, said: "No surprise at all that European citizens support the cultural and identity value of religious heritage. Generations of European craftsmen, artists, architects, engineers, musicians and citizens gave their utmost to raise the most outstanding buildings of our villages, towns and cities over thousands of years."

🗣 Renowned British journalist and author Sir Simon Jenkins commented on the survey results: "Places of worship are not only an irreplaceable witness to the architecture, art and faith of the past that we must care for, but also an important element of local identities that make them welcoming places for encounter, dialogue and exchange in an increasingly secular and diverse society."

🗞️Breaking news! Our new opinion poll confirms that European citizens consider religious heritage - the over 500,000 religious buildings in Europe as well as their art, crafts, and ceremonies- to be at the heart of society.

Here is why⬇️

✨81% of European citizens agree that the preservation of Europe’s historic places of worship is important for their community’s present and future

✨77% of Europeans agree that religious heritage is an integral part of their country's cultural heritage

✨86% of Europeans consider religious heritage a highly valued asset for their local community, either as a key part of their local identity (50%) or an attractive element of their cultural landscape (36%).

✨79% of Europeans welcome the possibility of opening historic places of worship to tourism as well as to extended use or reuse compatible and respectful with these places
