The National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies’ Church Recorders produce complete records of the contents of places of worship of all denominations. Over 1,600 churches have been recorded and so far over 1,200 have been added to the Church Recorders Online Index.
Who can use the Index?
The Index is free to access, and can be used by anyone interested in investigating Church Records. It is of particular value to those looking into family history, academics and researchers. Ecclesiastical Insurance Company and the police also make use of the Index when tracking items that have been misappropriated.
The Index includes:
• names of artists
• manufacturers and retailers
• the names of donors and of those commemorated
• subjects of stained glass windows and wall paintings
Items of silver or gold or other precious materials are not included.
