The Netherlands: a fresh look for the Protestant cultural treasures website

FRH is proud to announce the introduction of the new Protestant cultural treasures website. It is a platform aimed at stimulating and intensifying the visit to historic Protestant churches in the Netherlands.

Designed like an app, the website serves as a mobile church guide. For each church there is a short high-quality movie, followed by a tour through the church building with ground plans and short explanatory texts.

This project was funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) with a KIEM-subsidy aimed at bringing together academic partners and commercial parties in the creative sector.

Furthermore, on 9 and 10 October, 2015, a two-day symposium will be held about the Protestant vicarage in the Northern Netherlands in the redundant church at Leegkerk. Vicarages have almost become endangered species, since many have been sold and/or converted and put to other purposes. This symposium will focus on the significance of the vicarage in the cultural history of the Northern Netherlands: vicarages in the landscape, as architectural monuments, as working space, small-scale farms, as well as hotbeds of scientific research, literature, poetry, etc.
