The Churches Conservation Trust received a €10,000 award and was declared a Grand Prix laureate at the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards 2015. The Jury also appreciated “the tremendously significant role the Trust has played in the foundation of the Future of Religious Heritage Network.”
The winners of the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards 2015 were celebrated this evening during a high-profile event at Oslo City Hall. The European Heritage Awards Ceremony was co-hosted by Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, and Denis de Kergorlay, Executive President of Europa Nostra.
The Churches Conservation Trust received a €10,000 award and was declared a Grand Prix laureate at the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards 2015 in Oslo last night (11 June 2015), in an international recognition of the Dedicated Service of the national heritage charity over 46 years.
Accepting the award at Oslo City Hall in the presence of HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway Crispin Truman, the Chief Executive of The Churches Conservation Trust said:
“I’m so pleased and proud to accept this amazing honour on behalf of all the people who have helped the CCT over the last 46 years to save so many beautiful historic churches in England…It’s a wonderful thing that in an age of consumerism so many people are so passionate and give so much of their time and love to saving these historic religious buildings.”
The judges commented:
“The Trust’s early recognition of the importance of safeguarding the religious and architectural significance of historic places of worship and their essential function as centres of community life was particularly admired by the Jury…This long-established but still unique partnership between Church and State should be a model for all such collaborations. The Jury also appreciated the tremendously significant role the Trust has played in the foundation of the Future of Religious Heritage Network.”
Seven Grand Prix laureates and the Public Choice Award winner were chosen from 28 winners from 15 countries taking part in the EU Creative Europe programme. The awards are Europe’s most prestigious prize in the heritage field. The Churches Conservation Trust was the only Grand Prix laureate from the United Kingdom.
