PORTUGAL – Network of Jewish historical sites expands to eight more towns

The Rede de Judiarias, or Network of Jewish Quarters, in Portugal has expanded to include eight more towns — Covilhã, Fundão, Torre de Moncorvo, Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Mêda, Idanha-a-Nova, Seia and Almeida, according to local media. In Almeida, the municipality is beginning work to restore a ruined synagogue building.

Rede de Judiarias is an association aimed at promoting tourism to Jewish historical sites, founded in 2011 on the model of the Rede de Juderias in Spain. It now includes 28 municipalities, five regional tourism bodies and the Jewish communities of Lisbon and Belmonte.
