The Italian Government has launched an online database that includes 780 churches, cathedrals, abbeys and monasteries owned by the State fund for sites of worship (Fondo Edifici di Culto).

Most of them are located in Rome. This map shows historic churches such as Santa Maria in Ara Coeli, Sant’ Andrea della Valle, Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, Santa Francesca Romana, Sant’Egidio a Trastevere, SS. Giovanni e Paolo al Celio, S. Maria sopra Minerva, S. Silvestro, Santa Sabina, i Santi XII Apostoli e San Vitale.

50 religious sites are located in Naples and 47 in Palermo.

The data base also includes beautiful pictures. Descriptions are available in Italian only.
