FRANCE – the sale of France’s historic churches

Blogger Benoit de Sagazan has composed a list of 37 churches up for sale in France in July 2014. See the list here.

Most of these are sold by private owners, and the buildings have often been out of use for several years. Often, the new buyer proposes a cultural use, or some other project to keep the building open for the public. Other historic places of worship are transformed into private houses.

In 2012, France Culture made an hour-long item on the sale of France’s historic churches. Listen to it here.
